I tried my hand at making us a map, this is sort of to scale and broken down by state. If people like this I can work on adding everyone else, right now it's beta version. (And I can also pretty up the graphics a bit).
The Map
Feel free to make suggestions, and if you all have favorite colors I can add that to your name. (The dot in front of the name is the marker for the distance hiked so far). If you all want I can update this once or twice a week, all I need to do to update is divide the current AT miles for each person in half and put that in my CSS file.
I got the state mileage from Wikipedia.

Nice work, Claire. I think it will work well. I'd like a burgundy or reddish square if you can do it. (color code 660000) If that's too dark, try FFCC66 (those are my blog colors)
Looks good to me, though I'm going to be quite the trailing dot. :-) Can you make me a nice dark green--forest, or emerald?
Just to clarify--right now, I'm only seeing Claire and Bonnie on the map. Is that right?
I can do whatever background colors for everyone (just using hex codes for that in the CSS file).
And ya, it's just Bonnie and I on there currently, her mileage was handy on the front page as I was testing my code. I'll start adding others during the week.
I'm a trailing dot myself right now :P, but at least with the rest of the trail yet to come it doesn't seam so bad.
Looks cool to me. Something in green would be lovely :). And not just because of the date.

Looks great! I don't really have a color preference...
I've updated the map, everyone is on there now. For those who didn't have a color preference I picked whatever and tried to make the colors look fun together. I did change text colors as needed, so let me know if any of the names are hard to read and/or if you want your text (or background) color changed.
I did also try to make sure I have up to date mileage on there (anyone that's posted their miles on the two recent posts should be updated).

And ya, the left edge is the place marker on the map. That's why I have the little 'dots' in there. (Not sure if I want to keep them).
